What Gives You Job Satisfaction?
Whatever gives you job satisfaction will be entirely unique. Yep! We have personality traits or preferred ways of being that might lead us into particular sectors or roles, but ‘the thing’ that satisfies us, ‘the thing’ that gives us joy will be entirely different from another human being. One definition of job satisfaction is contentment with work, and, I think I might need a little more!
I Am Nosy
for example. I am nosy. By which of course I mean professionally curious. I was probably that child who got told off for asking; ‘but why?’, one too many times when I was small. Thus I have spent my adulthood asking exactly that. I have an insatiable desire to understand just ‘what that means’ for each person who comes through the door. I have a desire to understand and dig deeper until I ‘get’ the echoes and resonance, and comprehend the consequences of that choice, for that individual.
My Friend is Orderly
I have a friend who cannot help but categorise tings. by which I mean categorise anything. this makes her both a fabulous bookkeeper. She is also a great artist because within her work she is endlessly trying to ‘order ‘what nature had provided. This ordering leads to startling images. What it does not make her is a good cleaner. If you employ her as a cleaner, you will find your cutlery draws to be immaculate, but your home will still be mayhem after 4 hours solid work.

What I learn from this career coaching work is that each and every person is seeking the ‘aha’ moment, and each and every person finds that in a different place. Mine lies in witnessing someone recognise just what they bring to the world, own it and step right into that potency. Fee’s lies in her satisfaction of the accounts signed off and filed. Her ‘aha moment’ also lies in that second when she is asked for a pencil during our weekly art session, and she hands you a whole draw of correctly categorised pencils (in their hundreds), like this is normal.

The quicker you can identify and own your uniquely satisfying ‘aha’ moment, the more swiftly you can find the role where you can fulfil your need for that satisfaction.
