Career Coaching: The Truth

Career Coaching: Truth be told, if you are really honest with yourself, you do actually know what you want to do. Deep down you have no doubt about your purpose. Why do I say that? Because I see it over and over in the work that I do daily. What makes the difference between those who succeed and those who don’t? It’s as simple as how much commitment you give to it. Invest half-heartedly and you’ll get a half-hearted return. How come I don’t know what it is I want to do? I hear you ask…

My answer is this: “You. Have. Not. Yet. Listened.” Self-honesty is risky. Psychology Today has this to say:
“Being honest with ourselves requires more than an unsparing inventory of our personal strengths and weaknesses. We must also try to speak to each other plainly about things that matter. This means that we have some bad habits to break”
We have so many years of being disciplined and educated out of hearing our true hearts desire that we bury it deep.  We bury it beneath fear and discouragement and beliefs we have been handed by others … that we learn to hide it even from ourselves. The remedy is this: listen… listen… listen some more…

Career Coaching Truth

I don’t mean stop still until you receive divine-intervention, you have a life to be lived. What I mean is open your awareness, ask yourself the question and get on with your life. What you need to do is learn to pause, regularly, and listen  … If you consider the number of prohibitive thoughts during the number of days, across the number of years that you might have been piling on top of these tender seed of truth, then you’ll recognise it might take a little while to emerge. Be Patient: Be gentle and encouraging, check in regularly in the quiet moments and listen…  That seed is there…
