Are You Brave Enough to Find Your Real Career Potential?

I am often asked “career coach vs career counsellor: what’s the difference?” And that’s a great question. Broadly the difference between the two disciplines is this: A counsellor seeks to explore that past, find integration and help you move into your present. Conversely, a coach will work with your “present” to help you to create your future.

That latter sounds easier? Or  Less threatening huh?
Well, I have some news: if you want to find work that matters, you need to identify what matters to you. The only way that I know to find out that information is to have a little look at your past and use that rich resource to find out what has mattered to you and thus what important threads you want to take forward.

Career Coach vs Career Counsellor

So the difference between a career coach vs career counsellor is not so very great. The difference lies not in WHAT you work with, it lies in HOW you work with it, Its about how you choose to apportion the time. Counsellors can sit with clients for years whilst peace is made with their past. A coach will get the head torch on and help you scan your past with speed and accuracy in order to identify the important bits you want to harness to take forward.
To be “Coaching Ready” means that you will have the resilience to withstand delving deep, at speed, in order to decide on the next actions you will take. Coaching is very cognisant of your past. Coaching sees you past as your asset and not your curse. Coaching needs you to be ready to decide what to do next and to action that in order to reap the rewards.
