Alchemy of Coaching

These words from Oriah’s “the invitation” always resonate with me:

“I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own, without moving to hide it, or fade it or fix it.”

And this is the basis for all healing. It is within the moment following important words being spoken, that the transformation takes place.
Sometimes, in order to move forward on our career path, we need to identify blocks from the past. This is not always pain free. If, in my role as a coach, I intervene and try to ‘solve’ that pain too swiftly, I would actually be interrupting a natural process that needs to take it own course…..
It is in the sharp clarity as the reality echoes around the client, that they can identify they’re own way forward.
It is my job as the coach to establish enough trust in the relationship that pain can be voiced, and hold the space safely so that it can be heard, then it is over to the natural healing process to kick in.
And it does, every single time, and then you are freed to move forward onto your rightful belonging. Setting down the old beliefs and moving forward to be your best professional self. This is the alchemy in the coaching process.
